Directed by Talia Feldberg
Columbia University School of the Arts presents Light Shining in Buckinghamshire, a directing thesis production directed by current student Talia Feldberg and written by Caryl Churchill.
When old powers fall, who decides what’s next? In this kaleidoscopic portrait of the English Civil War era, radical ideas flow freely, leaders debate the way forward, and some people think it’s the end times.
Caryl Churchill’s early masterwork is a fiery, eerily resonant vision of a country in flux, and a population navigating a strange new world in search of a better future. With sharp eyes, a curious heart, and a big toolbox, this formally imaginative production cracks open the past for today’s audience in search of a light shining back at us.

Talia Feldberg is a director and native New Yorker. She works across a range of performance forms, including plays old and new; opera and music(al) theatre; and “experimental” and/or multidisciplinary projects. Her foremost artistic obsession is the past and its permutations (both collective and personal). Sometimes she makes new shows out of old text. Favorite recent directing credits include Chekhov’s Three Sisters and Mary Ruefle’s On Secrets at Columbia; and David Lang’s The Little Match Girl Passion with Music at Co-Cath. Talia has made, produced, and otherwise facilitated theatre via many entities in and around NYC, including a few you may know of. 2020 SDCF Observership with Marianne Elliott (Company). Next up: assisting Paul Lazar & Annie-B Parson on What to wear at BAM/Prototype; and Professor Anne Bogart on The Song of the Earth at Boston Lyric Opera.
