Join us at the Lenfest Center for the Arts, Columbia University, for a special screening of Feito Pipa (Gugu’s World, 2026), Brazil’s official submission for the Academy Awards! The film delves into the creative and turbulent universe of Gugu, a young boy in Northeastern Brazil navigating his gender performance, the care of his elderly grandmother, and a tense relationship with his father.

This special screening will be followed by an exclusive Q&A with director Allan Deberton and producer Karen Castanho, moderated by Associate Professor Elizabeth Ramírez-Soto (Film and Media Studies, School of the Arts, Columbia University).

This the first of a series of screenings organized by VISIONES SUR: Latin American & Caribbean Film Series at Columbia University, a collaboration between Film and Media Studies, School of the Arts, and the Institute of Latin American Studies (ILAS).

Co-sponsored by Film and Media Studies, School of the Arts; the Institute of Latin American Studies; and the Lemann Center for Brazilian Studies
